A CASUAL SATURDAY AFTERNOON

I spent a rare Saturday afternoon away from Murray Hill by doing one of my famous "walkabouts" around town. This time around I started things off by making my way over to Radio City Music Hall to check in on the NFL Draft. It was rounds 4-7, so there wasn't going to be any big name players in attendance, but I figured what the hell, I'll pop in and see what's going on. It was free to get in (just print out a ticket online) so since it didn't cost anything, what the hell?

As I expected, aside from the TV crews covering the draft, there wasn't anyone of note there to get excited about. There were plenty of fans and tourists there, however, and they seemed to really be into it. I have to say, it's a well-organized event and they don't hold back when it comes to glitz and glamor.

After that, I started to make my way downtown and decided to stop by the NHL Store to check out some jerseys and get some photos. While I was making my way down to the store, I happened to catch GERALDO RIVERA , the famous TV journalist, walking out of Fox Network Studios. He's a runty little guy with a cocky swagger and was wearing pink sunglasses. If you're going to wear pink sunglasses, you better have a swagger to your step, fella.

I finally arrived at the NHL Store and right away, I noticed a pretty cool looking chopper bike, custom-made by Orange County Choppers.

Pretty expensive bike!

NHL TV studios, located in the store!

After my stint in the NHL Store, I continued on my walkabout downtown, until I reached Madison Square Park. It was there when I ran into what seemed like a clusterfuck of activity. As it turns out, it was the Sikh Day Parade. The park itself and Madison Avenue was overrun by Sikhs celebrating whatever it was they were celebrating and I swear, it took forever for me to walk across the park.

After finally making my way out of there and directing myself back towards the east side of Manhattan, I reached 3rd Avenue where I ran into yet another street fair. This time it was one of those conventional street fairs that all New Yorkers are used to seeing this time of year. So I breathed a sigh of relief and made my way up 3rd Avenue, taking in the sights and enjoying a proper spring day.

Eventually I made my way back to Murray Hill and back to reality. It was a splendid day for a walkabout, one that I was more than happy to take. Sometimes I have to remind myself how much of a great city this is and I have to make an effort to take advantage of what it has to offer.

That's It. That's All I Got.
