If you are a fan of SNY's game show "BEER MONEY", then you'll want to be in the house tonight as they plan on making an overdue visit to THIRD and LONG to tape an episode. They were originally slated to make an appearance a few weeks ago, but due to "technical difficulties" beyond their control, they had to bail out last minute. They are making up for it tonight, so if you are a self-professed sports guru and want a chance to get on TV and possibly win some moola, swing by tonight at about 7pm! It should be a fun time!
We hosted a Dolphins/Bears Viewing Party for the benefit of the DOLFANS NYC club, who watch the Miami Dolphins at our bar every week. Last night's viewing party was also a fundraiser for the MIAMI DOLPHINS FOUNDATION, one of the few organizations that the DOLFANS NYC group raise monies for throughout the season.
As expected, the place filled up quickly and by kickoff time, we had a line going out the door. The fans were excited about the game as it was a must-win situation for both teams to stay in the playoff hunt. The game itself started out well, with Miami's defense keeping them in the game, limiting the Bears to a couple of field goals. However, Miami's offense simply looked horrible, with their patchwork QB situation eventually being their undoing. Chicago ended up pitching a shutout, winning the game 16-0. Still, it was a fun night for most fans (until the game ended), and the club raised a lot of dough for charity, which is always a good thing.
There were some interesting moments throughout the evening. For example:
*Folks continue to underestimate the power of OMMEGANG. The high-octane Abbey Ale claimed some victims by the end of the game as there were more than a few folks feeling the effects of the 8.5 %ABV that the beer packs. There were guys dancing on stools, a couple of wipeouts, at least one patron that had to be helped out, thanks to the subtle but strong Belgian style dubbel beer.
*Douchebag of the Week. Every week there's one guy/girl who is a total d-bag for whatever reason and this week, it's this ignoramus (tall geeky fellow), who decided since he couldn't get into the bar (clearly too drunk), he'd pepper the staff (myself included) and other patrons with racial insults. Real classy, big guy.
*Douchebag of the Week (pt 2), goes to the idiot who decided it would be "fun" to put his lady friend into a headlock (for shits and giggles). When I told him to stop, he decided that I was being an asshole for overreacting; as he's saying this to me, his fun "lady friend" proceeded to faint. After witnessing this, he then says to me (while I'm trying to help the young lady) "Um, okay maybe you weren't being an asshole... sorry.". Idiot.
Aside from these priceless moments, everything else went off without a hitch. Good stuff.
Busy weekend of sports ahead of us, with NCAA (football/hoops), NHL, NFL and the much-hyped UFC 123 PPV event on Saturday ($10 cover charge/ 9pm)!
