There's something about the day before Thanksgiving that brings out the peaceful side of me. Sure you can't help but to notice the frenzy that comes along with the mass exodus out of the Big Apple; But one that subsides, (usually around 7pm), there's a certain peacefulness that overtakes the city... You get a sense that the holidays are officially here and that in turn, causes you to instantly take it down a notch. Maybe it's the excitement that comes with meeting up with family and old friends, or simply getting away from the pressures of the workplace, even if it's only for a couple of days. Who knows for sure? In any case, I LOVE this time of year.
That being said, when you finally get home to your loved ones, enjoy the time you have with them. Don't waste it on needless drama that often happens when a family gets together for the holidays. Life's too short for that. Get your gobble on, watch some football, play Monopoly or whatever traditions your family may have and enjoy the day for what it is. And during the course of the day, remember to give thanks for what you have in your life.
As someone who will be spending time in the city for Thanksgiving, I love to see the tourists who make their way to New York for Thanksgiving. I can't really explain why but there's something nice about seeing people coming to the Big Apple for the first time and enjoying the sights of your city. Call me daffy.
Last night's edition of Dollar Draft Madness was filled with many of the tourists I mentioned above. I don't know how many city maps and cameras I counted during the course of the night but it was fairly obvious who they were and why they were in town: MACY'S THANKSGIVING DAY PARADE. (ugh)
The night itself was pretty laid back as the patrons were content with enjoying dollar mugs and casual conversations, as opposed to the usual debauchery that comes with Pre-Thanksgiving, which was fine by me. I expect much of the same tonight; aside from a high school reunion party we're hosting, I'm sure we'll get our share of displaced tourists, looking for something to do before hitting up the parade on Thursday. There's also some college basketball teams in town for the Pre-Season NIT (Virginia Commonwealth, Tennessee, UCLA and Villanova), so I expect we'll see some fans of those schools at some point too. I expect a good night.
We'll be closed for Thanksgiving Day and return for a full afternoon of college football/basketball on Friday. In the meantime, if I don't see you around, enjoy a Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving!
Cheers!
