FIRST DAY BACK
Last night was a pretty smooth first night back since being closed for two weeks for the much-mentioned renovations. Most of the reactions about the renovations were positive ones, with the biggest raves reserved for the bathrooms. Especially from the female patrons. I knew that the bathrooms were in a bad state, but judging from the reactions from the ladies in the house, I didn't know that they were that bad. Wow.
The night itself, while it wasn't that packed, was pretty steady, with plenty of curiosity-seekers, tourists and regulars intertwined, having a good time. I had to kick out a runty little guy at the beginning of the night, because he felt the need to give everyone who walked by the opened front windows a "hi-five";l While it was funny for the first 30 seconds of the bit, it got old pretty quickly. And with this guy choosing to scream every time he reached out for some one's hand, let's just say his night was cut short by the powers that be.
Overall, the first night back went pretty well. I anticipate the crowds growing over the next few days, with the last DOLLAR DRAFT MADNESS of the summer taking place tomorrow, the "AOL CITY'S BEST SPORTS BAR" party taking place on Wednesday, and the "Last Hurrah before Labor Day" get together on Thursday, this should make for a fun week.
Speaking of "AOL CITY's BEST SPORTS BAR" competition, we got an interesting phone call yesterday, from a representative of the ESPN ZONE. They wanted to congratulate us on our victory and we swapped stories about the voting process. I think it's pretty say that they were really surprised about our tenacity and how much we fought to win the vote. They also offered to come by to Third and Long for drinks and to check things out- they also invited the managers of Third and Long to dine with them back over at the ESPN ZONE. The GM of the ZONE, a very nice fella, was pretty good natured about the whole thing, which was kinda cool. I'm looking forward to the meet-up.
Speaking of meet-up, we're unveiling the AOL City's Best Sports Bar plaque on Wednesday night. Join us for Heineken Light buckets as well as Mixed Well drinks for $3.00 (for ladies); best part: $1.00 OFF ALL BEERS AND MIXED DRINKS (6pm-10pm). The $1.00 off symbolizes Third and Long being voted #1 Sports Bar in NY by all of you, the readers of NYC. So join us this Wednesday at 6pm for an afternoon/evening of festivities.
A number of you inquired about picking up a Limited Edition SUNDAY BREW CREW shirt for the upcoming season. You can get the gear HERE.
