THANKS ROMEO..... FOR NOTHING.

Less than a week ago I spent some time here extolling the virtues of my team, the CLEVELAND BROWNS, after they laid out a good old fashioned smackdown on the reigning NY GIANTS. After such a victory, it was natural for me to feel confident going into yesterday as my mighty BROWNS were set to face off against the dreaded WASHINGTON REDSKINS.

What made this matchup much more intriguing was the fact that the REDSKINS were the favorite team of some members of the BREW CREW, most notably one AFRIKA BAMBATTA, the loud and obnoxious cheerleader of the CREW.

When the afternoon began, the smack talk began right away as yours truly went on the offensive, pushing buttons whenever possible. We decided to make a "wager" to make the game that more interesting. We even had T-BILL, our resident solicitor, draw up an actual contract stating the stipulations of the wager. After intense negotiations, we came up with the following:

If the REDSKINS won, I would have to

a) Fork over one "Andrew Jackson".....

b) Come back next Sunday and in front of everyone, sing their fight song "Hail To The Redskins", on the microphone.

If the BROWNS won, the reverse would take place, with AFRIKA BAMBATTA singing the fight song of "America's Team".

As the game began, both of us experienced some nervous tension; the first half of the game was about as ugly as it gets as both offenses couldn't get on track. It wasn't until the third quarter when the REDSKINS got on the board first. I then got that familiar sick feeling in my stomach- the one that I usually got when one of my teams were about to lose. And sure enough, thanks to the crappy play-calling by our genius of a coach ROMEO CRENNEL, tons of dropped passes and crappy throws, my team found a way to let me down, losing 14-11.

It's bad enough that my team lost such an ugly game, after playing such a great game the week before. What makes it worse is that next week, I have to humble myself by singing the wretched words of the REDSKINS fight song in front of everybody. Somebody give me a gun.

Aside from the wager fiasco, BREW CREW SUNDAY was again a fun-filled affair. I know that I often write about the same things week after week when it come to Sundays; however, the reality is that we have so much fun that I can't help but to want to share it with those who couldn't make it. Whether it be through ongoing jokes, idiotic banter that takes place between friends, the occasional hook-ups, the raising of the "Gentleman's", etc. Sundays at Third and Long is a genuinely unique experience. Something that I personally look forward to week after week.

Speaking of which, a little bird tells me that our dear friend BLONDE CHATTERBOX will be joining us for next week's edition of BREW CREW SUNDAYS. That usually means an afternoon of controlled chaos that BREW CREW SUNDAYS were built on. Should be fun.
