WEEKEND KICKOFF RECAP
The past weekend was a fabulous one (yes I used the word "fabulous") for football fans everywhere as the NFL and NCAA football seasons kicked off into high gear. The bar hosted a plethora of college and pro football games; enough games mind you, to make a housewife or girlfriend sick. And it was glorious.
SATURDAY afternoon featured a slate of top- notch games including OHIO STATE/MIAMI, MICHIGAN/ND, OKLAHOMA/FSU and PENN ST./ALABAMA. There were plenty of college football fans on hand to enjoy the games, decked out in full team colors (There's something about Saturday afternoon college football that brings out the hottest chicks. Just a personal observation I might add).
During the afternoon games I was at the bar with my computer guru, working out glitches on my computer when I spotted this couple walking up East 35th Street, by the bar. They were walking a little dog when the dog decided to plop down on the sidewalk, right in front of the door of the bar. The couple tried to get the dog to move and the stubborn little thing wasn't having any of it. So the male went to pick up the dog to put him in his doggie carrier (which I hate by the way). The stubborn dog resisted of course, so his girlfriend goes to help him out.
Now this is taking place right in front of the doorway of the bar, right in full view of the computer guru and myself and we're somewhat amused by what's taking place. What happens next, however, will remain in my mental Rolodex for the rest of my life. The girlfriend, wearing a mini-skirt, bends over to help pick up the dog and .... her mini-skirt pops up! And BOOM! We see all of her bits in full bloom! She's out there, fully exposed for at least a good ten seconds and there we are, in total shock that we actually see it.
They finally get the dog into the bag and stroll off, like nothing ever happened and we look at each other with that "Did that just happen?" face. Priceless.
We get a visit later in the afternoon from former NJ Devil/NY Ranger and now current Montreal Canadiens SCOTT GOMEZ. He hung out for a few hours, taking in the games and some of the U.S. Open. The best part of his visit, however, took place when FOUR smokin' hot females came into the bar, CLEARLY overdressed for Third and Long, looking for him. They all ended up hanging out together in the back and best part of it all, practically everyone was oblivious of the fact that he was there. Just another perk of being a hockey player, I guess.
In the evening, we hosted a viewing party for the BAYLOR BEARS alumni group as they were there to catch a game against the University of Buffalo. They rolled about 30 deep and they were a very enthusiastic group, happy about their team's romp over U of B. We've hosted viewing parties for them in the past, especially during their run in NCAA tournament and I enjoy having them around. They are a fun bunch.
The rest of Saturday night went quickly, with a steady stream of people coming in and out of the bar, many of them feeling the effects of a full day of college football. Thankfully, there were no problems to report and everyone had a great time.
PART 2: BREW CREW SUNDAY (and photos) up next!
