WASHOUT.

Just like the title says, last night was a virtual washout thanks to the steady downpours we got off and on throughout the night. The NY Yankees/Oakland A's game, due to start at 7pm was held in a rain delay until 10pm, that's how bad the rains were. 3rd Avenue was pretty dead as a result. Hey, shit happens. Every night isn't going to be gangbusters, that's the nature of the business.

On another note, we received a visit from a blast from the past: JON CUSACK. He hadn't been around the bar since Super Bowl Sunday, having moved across the river to Hoboken, NJ. However, he's been making his way back into Murray Hill of late and there are rumors that he may make a return to the neighborhood. I guess you can take the boy out of "The Hill", but you can't always take "The Hill" out of the boy.

PRAYERS ARE NEEDED for RUBY, the Third and Long mascot as she is scheduled for the dreaded "SNIP" job this week. I guess this will ensure that RUBY will indeed be one of a kind. So the next few days you'll probably see our dear friend waddling around the neighborhood with a funnel around her neck. Try not to laugh too hard.

Here's what's on tap this weekend at THIRD and LONG:

TONIGHT: "After-Work Happy Hour" with Tommy D holding court until CHEF TELL and WINNIE COOPER take over. Featuring $4.00 Mixed Well Drinks and Draft Beers* from 5-9pm, what better way to kick off the weekend?
*Guinness/Delirium Tremens not included

SATURDAY: "Kick the Keg Saturdays" starts out our day with $2 mugs, ALL BEERS ON TAP* (12-8pm), followed by "Sudsy Saturdays", featuring 20oz "Bombers" of Coors Light, Bud or Bud Light, $4 each (8pm -11pm)! Don't forget we carry the MLB package for all of your MLB action! Cheer on your favorite team at any time!
*Delirium Tremens not included

Have a great weekend!

KICK THE KEG SATURDAYS: SOME RANDOM OBSERVATIONS...

It's about 12:45pm on Saturday afternoon and "Kick the Keg Saturdays" is in full swing. There's about ten people at the moment, enjoying $2.00 mugs (all drafts are $2.00 all afternoon long); AMY SMART's working behind the bar and I'm hanging out, blogging and doing other bar-related stuff. In the first hour since we've been open, I've already had to kick out some guy for being too drunk. It isn't even one o'clock yet! WTF?

Folks seem to be enamored by the selections on tap. In a way, "Kick the Keg" is a good opportunity to try out different beers on tap that you wouldn't necessarily order on your own. For some, "Kick the Keg" presents an opportunity to play drinking games such as "Around the World", where you have to sample each draft at least once and then do a shot after you complete each tower of taps. Personally I think it's a recipe for disaster but for a lot of these guys, it's a badge of honor. Oy vey!

"Kick the Keg" is driven by the beers on tap (of course), but it's also powered by the college game schedule. The bar has the ESPN Game Plan, which offers college football games from all over the country. So if there's a pretty good match up airing, then chances are pretty good that the bar will be filled with hardcore fans. You definitely get your share of "interesting folk", that's for sure.

BULLISH ON RED...

Last night we hosted a promo party for RED BULL, the famous energy drink. The purpose of the event was two-fold: To bolster support of their current and world-renowned product and to introduce their new product- RED BULL COLA.

Backed by "Team RED BULL", the company came to the bar prepared to blitz our senses with everything RED BULL. They even set up a mini-bar with their own "Bull-Tenders", passing out samples of RED BULL mixed drinks and concoctions featuring RED BULL COLA.

The turnout was a good one and again, the number of "lovely ladies" exceeded my expectations. It's been a good run so far in that department. I hope we can keep it running!

"Buckets o'Lights" went at a brisk pace...

As you can see, a good time was had by all and the RED BULLS did flow all night long! There was also a giveaway and some lucky folks won cool prizes such as a NY RED BULLS jersey and tickets to an upcoming NY Jets game.

FIRE MARSHALL ED , RED BULL MEL and the SWANFATHER....

The SEXY CANADIAN and the SWANFATHER....

And what made the night complete was a visit from The SEXY CANADIAN, one of my favorite imports. In town for the weekend, she stopped by to catch up over a few drinks. It's always nice to see her and I always appreciate the love she shows whenever she stops by. Giddy-up!
