GREAT MINDS CONVENE FOR PUB TRIVIA!

Last night we hosted our weekly Pub Trivia soiree and it was fun-filled time on a number of levels.  The theme of the night was "puzzles" and if you can't wrap your head around what that would consist of, think of anything from brain teasers to word jumbles and that's what you had to deal with all night.  Personally, I suck at brain teasers, word jumbles and stuff like that, but the kids seem to get into it and at the end of the day, that's all that matters.

I also got to see my good friend and college mate, Becky, who's in town this week to coordinate this weekend's National Down Syndrome Society Buddy Walk in NYC.  She's a great friend with a big heart and I'm proud to see her take on such an undertaking for a great cause.

Congrats to "If I Were Anymore Inbred, I'd Be A Sandwich" for winning this week's competition and winning a spot in the Tournament of Champions final, which takes place in early October!

TONIGHT: Join us for our viewing party for the GIANTS vs PANTHERS (8pm)!  We'll air the game LIVE w/audio and offer up Corona/Corona Lt Buckets (5/$25) and $4 Coors Lt. pints during the game!

PUB TRIVIA FUN!

The summer season is usually a slow, laid back time of year for the bar business, especially in August.  Lots of vacations are taken during that time of the year and during the week, bars are pretty happy to have foot traffic at all, let alone a busy night.

So we like to consider ourselves lucky to have a night like Pub Trivia Night.  It's a fun night in the middle of the week and it brings in Trivia-playing regulars and newbies alike.  New friendships are formed and often times, old friendships are rekindled.  Teams are competitive in a good-natured way and at the end of the night, everyone goes home happy!

Last night was no exception as we had 18 teams competing for the top prize of a $45 bar tab and a berth in our Tournament of Champions Final in September!  It was a fun time and even though we had to disqualify a couple of teams for cheating with their iPhones, it was still a good time.

During the course of the night, I saw a good friend of mine, whom I hadn't seen in quite awhile.  Sara (pictured right), is a delightfully funny young lady from Texas, and pens her own blog, called "OMG, It's Sara Katherine!" .  Once you get to read a few blurbs, you'll get a sense of what she's about and you'll immediately be drawn to her wit and southern charm!  I don't get to see her nearly enough, but whenever she passes by the bar, I always love to catch up with her.  Check out her blog for yourself and I'm sure you'll enjoy what you see!

That's it for now.  My brother's flying into NYC tonight, so I'll be spending some quality time with him.  Meanwhile, there's Pre-Season football on tap (Cincinnati vs Atlanta), MLB action and yes, for you diehards, SHARK WEEK!

Cheers!

SHOULD I SAY OR STAY AWAY?

Last night was another rousing edition of DOLLAR DRAFT MADNESS; For starters, the intern count was lower than usual. While that is normally a bad thing register-wise, it actually worked out for all parties as we had a pretty good crowd that enjoyed their brews and did the right thing by the bar. And on top of that, we didn't have to deal with any cheezy antics that normally comes with serving brews to interns who try too hard to be cool.

The highlight of the night by far had to have been the drunken stud muffin who thought he was getting the ultimate hook up. There was this Asian chick (from India I think) who showed up to the bar late night by herself. She had long black hair, a striking two piece outfit (blouse/skirt ensemble), complete with fishnet stockings and pumps. Definitely a bit overdressed for Dollar Draft Madness. As the doorman checked out her ID, my spider-senses began throwing up red flags all over the place. After she went inside, I went over to the doorman and he confirmed what my spider senses were telling me: "She" was in fact a "he". Heh, heh, heh.. the plot thickens.

Within minutes of the "chick" ordering a beer, she was approached by this guy who had been making the rounds most of the night, unsuccessfully, I might add. Next thing you know, they are sitting in the back of the bar, "canoodling" and soon after that, making out! Now we're all freaking out, because we know that "she" is in fact a "he" and wondering if he's aware of what he's getting himself into. Then the conversation turned into "Should we tell him?". At the end of the conversation, we decided that he was a big boy and that he's responsible for his actions. Who knows? Maybe he already knew what she was and was cool with it.

After about twenty minutes of full-on makeout session taking place, both of them made their way to the bar and ordered a round of drafts. Soon after, the guy goes to the bathroom....with the "girl" going a few minutes later. Sure enough, the both of them are gone for more than a few minutes when I send the barback on a search mission. And just as I thought, the both of them were found in the stall of the ladies room, doing god-know-what. Of course, I had to break up their lust-fest and they ran out of the bar soon after.

I wonder what his reaction will be when they get to "the promised land"?

PUB TRIVIA kicks off tonight at 8pm! Bring a group of friends and compete for cool prizes and a berth in our "Tournament of Champions" in August! It's free to play and great drink specials will make the brain cells work that much faster (or maybe not). Registration kicks off at 7pm!

JUST WHEN YOU ARE ABOUT TO LOSE ALL FAITH....

In the last few weeks, I've begun questioning to all who would listen, where all of the beautiful women are. New York has always been known as a mecca for beautiful women. But lately I've noticed that the caliber of babes that I'm used to seeing around the city were a tad bit "off" from what I'm used to seeing at this time of year. I'm used to being overwhelmed by the beautiful babes, peeling off their winter skin and flaunting all that is good about them. Instead, I've been inundated with trolls and wannabe Paris Hiltons (eek); I was thinking that maybe all of the hotties made the exodus out of town for good- a frightening thought indeed.

Well, my faith was restored on Tuesday. It was as if by magic, all of the beautiful women of NYC came back to the city in full force and all of them walked by the bar, one by one. T-BILL, I think this was the moment we had been waiting for with baited breath. I can honestly say it's official: Summertime is here. And not a moment too soon. Welcome back o beautiful ladies of NYC!

DOLLAR DRAFT MADNESS RECAP

Last night's Dollar Draft Madness brought about another reminder that summer is finally here: INTERNS. Yes, they are back, ready to slam down mugs of beers with their hard-earned stipends and fall in love with whomever they meet from week to week. It's a time-honored ritual of summer Tuesday nights. You get the freshly minted graduates of college out and about, getting used to the surroundings of Murray Hill; Or you'll get that junior-turned-senior, slaving away for countless hours at an internship for peanuts and making the most of their nights in the greatest city in the world. Mesh those two worlds together with your regulars of Dollar Draft Madness and you get a summer's worth of interesting stories. And I'm pretty sure this year will be much of the same. Stay tuned.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT PUB TRIVIA!

Yesterday we had a celebrity sighting of sorts as ICE-T (the rapper and actor) and his bodacious wife COCO did a fly by.

Let me say that the heads turned big time when they walked by; for obvious reasons, of course. Let me say that Ms. COCO is STACKED! Whoa! She stopped in a couple of the boutique stores along 3rd Avenue, but it became fairly obvious that these stores didn't have the outfits that could handle her "assets"....

Last night reminded me that it's that time of the year again as colleges let out for the summer and prom season is in full gear; I turned away quite a few underaged twits throughout the night. I expect to see more of that over the course of the next few weeks, I suspect.

Tonight marks the return of WEDNESDAY NIGHT PUB TRIVIA, hosted by BRAD and MATT, our dynamic duo!

Each week, teams gather to match wits against each other for bragging rights and cool prizes like free drinks, promotional items and of course, the coveted free bar tab! You're allowed to form a team (anywhere from 1-6 people per team) and most importantly, come up with a witty, clever name for the team; Then you and your team will go head to head in pop trivia competition where the topics usually vary widely. There's usually a theme for each Trivia Night, some listed, some you have to figure out as you go. Obviously the goal is to earn the most points throughout the night and the team that comes out on top wins the bragging rights and the coveted Trivia Cup! We also offer board games like Connect Four, Jenga, and Uno for use after Trivia ends, for you and your newfound friends to take advantage of!

Registration begins tonight at 7pm and the fun begins at 8pm! Best of all, NO COVER CHARGE! WE also have buckets of Coronitas (5/$12) and $3.00 Mixed Well Drinks (for ladies) all night long! So if you haven't had a chance to experience Pub Trivia yet, gather up the troops and come on down!

And if you're a big hockey fan, you're in luck! Game 7 between Pittsburgh/Washington airs tonight! Winner moves on to the Eastern Conference finals! (7pm)

PUB TRIVIA RECAP

Last night featured a rousing edition of PUB TRIVIA, with a lot of new teams locked in competition. One enjoyable aspect of PUB TRIVIA is the good-natured ribbing that takes place between teams. Every so often you'll find THAT GUY who takes the whole trivia competition too seriously, to the point where you want to bop that person on the head with an enclyclopedia. But for the most part, the participants tend to roll with the punches and have a good time.

Another good thing about PUB TRIVIA (which I mention quite frequently) are the cute chicks that tend to show up each week for the fun. They roll in small packs, taking full advantage of the $3.00 mixed well drinks made specifically for the ladies. What's always interesting is when you see a guy trying to play the cheap role by sending a girl up to get a $3.00 mixed drink for them. Man up boys! If you gotta get a girl to get you a cheap drink for you, it may save you some coins in the short term, but I can promise you that it doesn't leave a good impression on that potential hook-up.

Overall, a good time was had by all and pretty soon, we'll have all of our qualifiers for the upcoming "Pub Trivia Tournament of Champions" (slated for April 15), where previous champions will compete for the BIG DAWG prize and bragging rights for being PUB TRIVIA champ of champs! Stay tuned for more details! In the meantime, check out more pics of last night's festivities on our FACEBOOK page. And if you haven't done so yet, feel free to join the "Fans of Third and Long" group, where you'll get the firsthand scoop on drink deals, contests, and other cool shit, before anyone else.

TONIGHT: "Bucket O'Lights" (5pm-10pm), featuring $15.00 Buckets of Miller Lite, Michelob Light or Coors Light AND $4.00 Pints of Sam Adams or Brooklyn Dark Chocolate Stout during March Madness games!

ONE MORE THING: Opening Day is 10 day away....

GOOD TIMES HAD BY MOST.....

Last night was another fun Wednesday, filled with Pub Trivia, hook-ups and a hint of debauchery. The night itself started out slowly, however, by 8:30pm, the place was teeming with Pub Trivia buffs, hockey fans and Phillie Fanatics, looking for a victory in Game 1 of the World Series.

Even NACHO LIBRE got into the spirit of the evening. BROOKLYN BREWERY did a fine job with its BROOKLYN PENNANT ALE, and OPIE CUNNINGHAM and ALEX TREBECK were great in running the Trivia. And on top of that, the PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES stole Game 1 from the TAMPA BAY DEVIL RAYS, so it looks as if everyone went home with smiles.

A pretty good night after all.

BUCKET O'LIGHTS tonight with $15.00 buckets of MILLER LITE, MICHELOB LIGHT, COORS LIGHT and HEINEKEN LIGHT (5/15.00), 5-1opm! Round up the troops and join us after work!
