FULL COLOR FOOTBALL: The History of the American Football League

If you are a true football fan and aren't doing anything tonight, do yourself a favor and check out FULL COLOR FOOTBALL: The History of the AFL. This five-part documentary tells the story of the old American Football League, the upstart football league created in 1960 to go head to head against the mighty NFL. This league brought about a quick paced, flashy league filled with unique looking uniforms, stars and rivalries. I can distinctly remember looking at their games back in the day and remembering how cool the uniforms and helmets of teams such as the Kansas City Chiefs, Boston Patriots and Oakland Raiders looked. For those of you out of the loop, if it wasn't for the AFL, the NFL wouldn't have these teams today:

BOSTON (New England) PATRIOTS
BUFFALO BILLS

DALLAS TEXANS (Kansas City Chiefs)

HOUSTON OILERS (Tennessee Titans)

LOS ANGELES CHARGERS (San Diego)

NEW YORK TITANS (Jets)

OAKLAND RAIDERS

MIAMI DOLPHINS

CINCINNATI BENGALS

The NFL is honoring the 50th anniversary of the AFL with teams wearing throwback jerseys of the AFL teams throughout the season (no doubt you may have noticed some of the teams wearing them this past weekend). That's a testament to how important the AFL was to the history of the NFL. You can catch the series on Showtime tonight at 8pm.

Again, if you are a true fan of the NFL, you'll definitely want to catch this.

no offense to the dolphins or bengals but they are not OG afl teams
