A WHIRLWIND WEEKEND of ACTIVITY... (long post)

The past weekend was a blur; between the office parties, the Santacon invasion, UFC 124 and a great afternoon of football, it was a fun weekend...

One of the highlights of the weekend was a visit to the bar by former Miami Dolphins great, NAT MOORE, who heard about us being a Miami Dolphins bar and wanted to see for himself.  For those of you who go back to the NFL of the '70's and '80's, he was a stud receiver for the 'Fins, being a favorite target of both Bob Griese and Dan Marino. He spoke to us for a bit and enjoyed a Guinness; mentioned that he was surprised to see that we didn't have any Dolphins stuff hanging up so he said that he would arrange to set the bar and the Dolfans NYC club up with some Dolphins Memorabilia.  Pretty cool.

Of course, I can't write about this weekend without mentioning Santacon: The Invasion.  Now I had this day circled on our calendar but to be quite honest, it's sort of difficult to plan for Santacon.  You don't know where the Santas will meet up and what their parade route will be until literally the night before the event.  Last year we had a spotty showing of Santas, while the year before that we were deluged with drunken Santas.  So it's virtually impossible to plan so you roll the dice and hope for the best.

Sure enough, I received a S.O.S. call from my bartender at about 11am saying I need to get downstairs asap.  I scrambled downstairs and walked into a sea of red and white fist pumping Santas: Santacon had invaded Third and Long...

Keep in mind that this was only 11am.  We experienced wave after wave of touring Santas throughout the day and I ended up staying there until about 8pm.  I got out in time before the UFC 124 wave of folks came in.  That turned out to be a good event as well, with headliner GEORGES ST. PIERRE crushing JOSH KOSCHECK in the main event, much to the delight of GSP fans in attendance.

The following day was another edition of Brew Crew Sunday.  This week's edition would be interesting in that the NY Jets were having a rematch with the Miami Dolphins.  Since our bar is an "official" Miami Dolphins bar, many of the Dolphins regulars would be attending the game.  So I didn't quite know what to expect, attendance wise for the afternoon slate of games.

To make things worse, I was nursing a slight case of Montezuma's Revenge and one of my bartenders was stuck in Chicago, thanks to the vicious snowstorm that wrecked havoc in the Midwest.  So this was going to be an interesting afternoon, that much was certain.

As always, I knew I could count of the SUNDAY BREW CREW to make the day interesting.  One of the members, SEAN JEAN was nursing a hangover while celebrating his birthday and he certainly looked worse for the wear. Everyone else took advantage of that and had a bit of fun with him.  They also enjoyed the fact that they had the bar pretty much to themselves for once.

Later in the day, we began to see an influx of Dolphins fans (those who couldn't get tickets to the game), making their way into the bar.  We also had a fairly large contingent of New England fans looking for their game vs Chicago.  So, as it turns out, even without the full contingent of DOLFANS, (who went to the game), we still ended up being pretty busy.  And if you were a Jet fan, you had plenty of reasons to grumble.  Between dropped passes, missed opportunities and a ridiculous bone-headed move by a member of the Jets coaching staff, it was a shitty day to be a NY football fan.  However, if you were a Dolphins or Patriots fan, you were celebrating in more ways than one.

One female Dolphins fan celebrated a bit too much and had to be "helped" out of the bar after taking a "baptism" in the toilet.  Bless her heart. Lesson to be learned:  Always drink in moderation.

And of course, the night ended on a high note, with SAN DIEGO SUPER-FAN and ELVIS having a Pants-Off, Dance-Off competition... I smell a remake of "Dirty Dancing" in the works...

All told, it was a pretty good weekend, and going into tonight, we got a blessing of sorts; the NY Giants had their game pushed back to tonight, thanks to Mother Nature.  So now we get TWO football games tonight for the price of one!  MUG NIGHT MONDAYS just got a bit more interesting!

On that note, see you tonight.

That's It.  That's All I Got.
