COUNTDOWN TO MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND BEGINS!

It's Monday afternoon and I find myself multi-tasking while trying to post this blog and it isn't proving to be too successful. So if this post isn't as stimulating as you'd hoped, my apologies in advance.

Over the weekend we said goodbye to two of our favorite bartenders, CHELSEA NOW (temporarily) and WINNIE COOPER (permanently). CHELSEA's off to Costa Rica for the summer to do work on her Ph.D project, while WINNIE COOPER, who after four years of service at Third and Long is moving on to bigger and better things.  A lot of the regulars, family and friends turned out on Friday to say goodbye to them while they worked their last shift and everyone had a great time.  While it's sad to see them go (though CHELSEA will be back in time for BREW CREW SUNDAYS), we wish the both of them well in their future endeavors!  I'm sure we'll see WINNIE COOPER around the neighborhood from time to time so it won't be a total loss!

 Mandatory farewell toast!

As we creep towards Memorial Day Weekend and the "unofficial" start of Summer 2011, I'm sure I speak for everyone by wondering out loud where the hell Spring 2011 was?  I guess one of the main reasons why I'm so thrown off track by the approaching  holiday is because we haven't had much of a Spring season to enjoy.  Nevertheless, the holiday weekend approaches and there's a lot going on here at the bar and around the city this week before the annual mass exodus to the Hamptons and Jersey Shore begin on Friday.  Here's a sampling of what's going on:

TONIGHT: We're hosting a live broadcast of "Hockey Talk Live" (7pm) before the start of Game 5 between the Boston Bruins & Tampa Bay Lightning (8pm, w/Audio)! If you're a fan of the Stanley Cup playoffs, you'll want to be here for that!   $1 Bud/Bud Light mugs, $2 Domestic Draft mugs and 2 for 1 Wine or Sangria by the Glass!

TUES: DOLLAR DRAFT MADNESS. The weekly pouring of the mugs still rolls strong after 20 years and this Tuesday is no exception.

WED: FLEET WEEK BEGINS.  This is the week that all single ladies in NYC have been waiting for when our fair city gets invaded by thousands of sailors from all over the world.  Oy vey.

FRI: "FIREBALL FRIDAY".  At 9pm we will be doing a mass "toast" with a shot of Fireball Whisky in an attempt to set a record for the most number of people doing a shot of "Fireball" at the same time!  Join us!

SAT: UEFA CHAMPIONS LG. FINAL:  Manchester United faces off vs Barcelona in the "Clash of the Titans" (2pm) and bragging rights for "Best Club Team in the World".

So as you can see, just in our bar alone there's a lot going on leading up to the holidays.  There's plenty of other things taking place throughout the city so while Mother Nature hasn't been as cooperative in allowing us to enjoy what NYC has to offer, life still goes on.

Get out there and enjoy it!

Cheers!
