THE NIGHT BEFORE THE HOLIDAY EXODUS

It used to be that when a long weekend was approaching, the strip on 3rd Avenue would be teeming with activity, mostly from co-workers and locals gathering for one big blowout before heading their separate ways for the long weekend.  Alas, it wasn't the case last night.

For the first time in what seemed to be a long time, 3rd Avenue was more like business as usual, instead of the festive atmosphere one would expect for a pre-holiday weekend. Perhaps it may have been due to the lack of Spring-like weather and the promise of an actual summer-like weekend that prompted folks to get an early start to the holidays.  I did notice a lot of people toting weekend bags and golf clubs on Thursday so, who knows?

So the night pretty much consisted of basketball fans eager to watch the Bulls vs Heat game (which the Heat won, moving on to the NBA Finals in the process), and a bunch of students from Yeshiva University, celebrating their graduation.  An interesting mix of people, to say the least.  We did have our first sighting of military men, however, and the reaction was, as expected, typical.  Two Marine guys walk in and within moments, they were locked into conversation with a couple of young ladies. This led to the typical embracing and make out session.  Shocker.

TONIGHT: We have Game 7 of the NHL Eastern Conference finals between the Boston Bruins and the Tampa Bay Lightning (8pm, w/audio). The NY Mets, hopefully feeling new life now that they have a new minority owner, host the rival Philadelphia Phillies (7pm) while the NY Yankees are on the West Coast to face the Seattle Mariners (10pm).

We're also hosting "Fireball Friday", where we will attempt to break the record for the most number of people doing a shot of Fireball Cinnamon Whisky at one time (current record is 29 people).  If you are in the neighborhood and would like to participate, feel free to join us as we'll do this at 9pm SHARP!

WEEKEND SCHEDULE:
Friday: Open as usual
Saturday: Open as usual
Sunday: CLOSED
Monday: Open @ 4pm

So have a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day Weekend and if you're in the area, make sure to stop by!

While you're here, make it a point to check out a couple of new beers making their debut in our rotation: GREENPORT HARBOR SUMMER ALE (Golden Ale, 5.3%ABV) and WOLAVER'S ORGANIC IPA (American IPA, 6.5% ABV).  Both are refreshing, enjoyable session beers, perfect for the summer months!  Try them out and tell us what you think!

Cheers!
