ANOTHER EPIC GAME 7 TONIGHT!

Normally at this time of the year we are all about hockey and the NHL playoffs.  However, I'd be shirking on my duties as a sports fan and bar manager if didn't talk about tonight HUGE Game 7 match-up between the Miami Heat and the Indiana Pacers.

(credit: Denver Post)

Going into this series, most basketball pundits and fans had the Miami Heat penciled in as the representative for the Eastern Conference in the upcoming NBA Finals.  This, in spite of the fact that the Indiana Pacers won the season series, 2-1.  The Pacers have shown themselves to be a worthy foe for the Heat, playing with confidence against the defending champions with each passing game.  That being said, this matchup has turned out to be the best matchups of the NBA playoffs thus far and it's appropriate that it's come down to Game 7 to decide the winner.

Who's going to win?  Share your prediction with us in the comment section.  In the meantime, join us tonight for the epic battle (8:30p w/audio)!  Hint: You may want to get here early.

ALSO TONIGHT: Catch Game 2 of the NHL Eastern Conference Finals, Boston vs Pittsburgh (8pm) and enjoy $2 domestic drafts ALL NIGHT LONG!

Cheers!

AN INTERESTING CHAIN OF EVENTS...

Just as the title of this post says, it has indeed been an interesting chain of events over the course of the weekend.  In the sports world, we find the NBA playoffs finally producing some interesting drama in the two Conference Championship Series.  What was expected to be a cake-walk for both the San Antonio Spurs and the Miami Heat has all of a sudden, become a dogfight as both the Oklahoma City Thunder and Boston Celtics rediscovered their game.  Now both series are tied at 2-2 and and everyone's interested in what happens next.

Meanwhile, the Stanley Cup has produced two straight overtime games, with the L.A. Kings winning both games on the road.  Now they go back home with a 2-0 lead and have the NJ Devils on the ropes, needing only two more wins to hoist the Cup for the very first time.

Now, as expected, with the NY Rangers out of the mix, the crowds have been much lighter than normal.  Much of that had to do with the fact that many of our diehard NJ Devils fans went to the games in New Jersey.  In fact, it's safe to say there were probably more L.A. Kings fans in the bar than NJ Devils fans.  However, I expect things to change for Game 3, especially with the Devils being on the road.  The fans should band together as their team faces a very critical situation.  Should the Devils lose and fall behind 3-0 in the series, you can all but call it a wrap.  History dictates that it's almost impossible to come back from a 3-0 deficit in a seven-game series, so it is imperative that New Jersey steal one, if not both games out West.  Tonight's game will be critical, to say the least.

The weekend itself was pretty tame.  The weather had much to do with it, with thunderstorms peppering the area off and on throughout, thus interfering with the flow of the nights.  Friday night actually turned out to be a pretty good night as many of our patrons chose to stay at the bar rather than try to deal with the pouring rain.  They also got to witness some history being made as JOHAN SANTANA pitched a no-hitter for the NY Mets, the first one in the team's 50 year history.

Saturday night, on the other hand, was pretty quiet, sans for the crowd we had for Game 2 of the Stanley Cup and Game 4 of the NBA Western Conference Finals.  We had a group of revelers show up at about midnight in one of those Mexican party buses, but they were in for a quick round of drinks, and made more of a mess than they were worth.  Nothing exciting other than that.  Neighborhood was that dead.

Sunday was a total waste of a day for me as I think I may have contracted food poisoning.  Woke up with aches, chills and the worst case of diarrhea known to man.  We are talking projectile proportions.  That bad.   I was scheduled to open that day; couldn't make it out of the apartment; then tried to shoot for a later opening, hoping that I would feel better by the afternoon, but no shot.  I spent pretty much the whole day either lying in bed or praying in the bathroom.  Simply brutal.  Still not 100% but I am hoping to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

This is going to be a busy, BUSY week at the bar.  Between the hockey, the NBA playoff, we also have the start of the EURO 2012 soccer tournament from Poland/Ukraine.  16 of the best teams in Europe go at it and it always draws a crowd.  Matches run from Friday June 8th, through the end of the month.  Two matches each day (12 noon/2:30p) during the group stage, and we'll carry EVERY match of the tournament.

Then you still have PUB TRIVIA on Thursday; Interleague baseball kicks in again this weekend, with the Yankees/Mets Subway Series taking place; Then there's the Belmont Stakes on Saturday, with "I'LL HAVE ANOTHER" shooting for the elusive Triple Crown.  Oy.

After all of that, I'm going to need a vacation.  Catch you tonight for Stanley Cup/NBA Playoff action!  By the way, we're raffling off an autographed photo of LA Kings great, MARCEL DIONNE during tonight's game.  So catch the game with us!

Oh and sorry, no boob sightings in Murray Hill this weekend.

Cheers!

THIS SH** JUST GOT REAL...

Game 4 of the NJ/NY NHL playoff series finally gave us a game that we're familiar with between the two teams: a gritty, physical game where things finally got chippy.  There is no blood lost between the two teams and up to this point the two teams had been careful not to resort to brawling.  But it was only a matter of time before frustrations would boil over- you could see it coming.  And while tempers did indeed boil over, it was the NJ Devils who took advantage of the opportunities given to them as they played their most dominant game to date, defeating the NY Rangers, 4-1 and knotting the series at two games a piece.  The always pivotal Game 5 takes place on Wednesday night back at MSG and for once, I can feel the confidence starting to grow among Devils fans. I am also starting to sense the same thing from hockey pundits as the NJ Devils have (for the most part) outplayed the #1 seeded Rangers through most of this series.  Game 5 should be intense!

In checking the playoff schedule, please note that Game 6 takes place this Friday and Game 7 (if necessary), takes place on Sunday night.  Normally we're closed on the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend, however, if there is a Game 7, we will be opened for the game.

ON ANOTHER NOTE..I know I don't delve into the NBA playoffs too often here, however, last night I did happen to catch the OKC vs LAL game and watched the Thunder dismantle the Lakers, eliminating them from the playoffs.  Am a witnessing the "Changing of the Guard" here folks?

In the meantime, the Miami Heat are having their own issues in trying to take out the Indiana Pacers, but it's proven to be more difficult than they imagined.  They face each other in Game 5 tonight and you can catch that game here.

DON'T FORGET about "Craft Brew Tuesdays", where we offer up a select list of great craft beers for only $3/pint (5pm- close)!  Craft beers being offered up tonight include:  Long Trail IPA, Harpoon Summer Beer, Lagunitas IPA, Goose Island Honkers Ale and Brooklyn Summer Ale!  Stop by and enjoy!

AND FINALLY:  Tomorrow is the day that the ladies of NYC have been waiting for:  It's the start of FLEET WEEK!  Thousands of sailors and military types invade the Big Apple for a week of activities and for many of them, it's their first time to NYC.  If you encounter one of them in your travels, make sure you thank them for a job well done and maybe buy 'em a beer!

SPECIAL NOTE: Pub Trivia takes place on Thursday (8pm)!

Cheers!

HOT WEEKEND AHEAD

CINCO de MAYO is upon us and of course, that really means nothing except for an excuse to party in "honor" of our neighbors South of the Border.  So to that, we'll join in on the festivities because, quite frankly, we've never seen a party we didn't like.

We start things off TONIGHT with "QUATRO de MAYO", a pre-cursor to "Cinco de Mayo" and a great way to kick off the weekend! Enjoy Corona (4/$20) and $4 Domestic Drafts/Well Drinks (5-9pm)!

Saturday is "CINCO de DERBY" Day, with a full day of sports and celebrating!  Start the day with the NY Rangers vs Washington Capitals (12:30p), followed by Mets vs Diamondbacks (4pm), then the Kentucky Derby (5:30p), followed by UFC: Diaz vs Miller on Saturday night.  Plenty of drink specials all day long!

Sunday is "Sunday FUNday", with the NY Knicks vs Heat, followed by NJ Devils vs Flyers, ending with MAD MEN SUNDAYS (10pm w/audio).

It's going to be a rip-roaring weekend.  I can feel it.

Cheers!
