CRAFT BEERS & COUNTRY MUSIC: NICE COMBO!

Country music has experienced a bit of a renaissance in NYC over the past couple of years.  Whenever big country music stars like Jason Aldean, Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban and Zac Brown Band come to New York City for a concert, arenas and stadiums routinely sell out.  This was especially interesting in light of the fact that there was no country music station in our area for years.

Well, it seems that the radio gods finally took notice and as of last week, we find ourselves with our first Country Music radio station in NYC for the first time since I can remember.  (94.7 NASH FM) And if you are a fan of that genre, you are ecstatic.

While I am not the biggest Country Music fan out there, it's good to see that there's a station in NYC available for the legion of fans that exist in the area.  And to commemorate the official welcoming of country music to the Big Apple, we're going to devote our Tuesday nights for the month of February to Country Music.  And if it takes off, we'll keep it rolling!

So if you are a fan of the genre, join us for Craft Brew and Country Night.  Enjoy a playlist of today's top Country Music stars over $3 pints of our rotating selection of fine Craft Beers!  This week's choices include:

Shipyard Applehead Ale (Wheat Ale w/Apple & Cinnamon notes)
Lagunitas IPA (highly-regarded West Coast IPA)
Long Trail Hibernator Ale (Scottish Ale)
Harpoon Dark (Munich Style Dunkel)
Long Ireland Celtic Ale (Red Ale)

So make sure to stop by, enjoy some great craft beers and the return of Country!

Cheers!

YOU WANT CRAFT BEER? WE GOT CRAFT BEER....

Over the course of the past few years, we've been quietly building up a reputation as a bar that features a nice selection of beers.  That is due to the fact that we love beer.  Not just the run of the mill stuff from the major brands, mind you, but quality crafts beers from well known and respected breweries from around the country and around the world.

We do a lot of research on our own and also take suggestions from our knowledgeable beer reps as well as our patrons, who are our most important judges of beer.  Each month we'll feature a craft beer at a discounted price as our "Beer of the Month", to give customers a chance to try out a particular beer they may not have heard of or tried before.  And on Tuesday nights, we host a "Craft Brew Night", where you can sample a select number of craft beers for only $3/pint!  This is a favorite for beer snobs and newbies alike, as some of these beers can easily cost up to $8/pint during regular hours.

The point of all this is simple:  To broaden the horizons of beer drinkers in the neighborhood and in NYC and to let you know that you can enjoy good quality beers at reasonable prices.  Let's face it: anyone can drink swill.  But if you have a chance to have a quality craft beer at the price of that swill you're used to drinking, why not take advantage of it?

Nuff Said.

TONIGHT'S CRAFT BREW TUESDAY LINEUP ($3/pint)

Harpoon UFO White (Belgian White)
House of Shandy's Curious Traveler (Shandy)
Left Hand Stranger (American Pale Ale)
Long Trail Harvest Ale (American Brown Ale)
Magic Hat #9 (American Pale Ale)
Shipyard Pumpkinhead Ale (Pumpkin Ale)

The selections change weekly and the special runs all night long, so make sure to stop in and try out a craft beer (or two)!

Now if you'll excuse me, it's time for some CHAMPIONS LEAGUE football (or soccer for the uneducated)!  And don't forget about PUB TRIVIA tomorrow night (8pm)!

Cheers!

INDIAN SUMMER?

It's Tuesday, October 2nd and while we should be enjoying breezy temps and the bursting colors of the Fall season, we're instead going to encounter a mini heat-wave of sorts, with temps hovering near the 80 degree mark for most of the week.  Yay.  I'm not sure how I feel about that;  I rather enjoy the Fall season and I can do without the humidity and heat from the summer.  But hey, it is what it is I guess.

Another thing I like about the Fall season is the influx of Oktoberfest and pumpkin-style beers. For example, the last couple of weeks we've been carrying great pumpkin beer offerings from Shipyard (Smashed Pumpkin) and Southern Tier (PumKing) and we can't keep it in stock. In fact, as I write this, I find myself sold out of the popular pumpkin beers, even after tapping the last keg on Saturday (don't worry, we should have more of the Southern Tier PumKing in by Thursday, while the Shipyard Smashed Pumpkin is totally sold out).  Meanwhile, we've also done pretty well with the Oktoberfest beers, with the Brooklyn Oktoberfest leading the way.  And Oktoberfest is also the featured theme for our "Craft Beer Bucket of the Month", a bucket sampler of various Oktoberfest-type craft beers from around the country and the world.

With all of our various offerings for the Fall season, today is the perfect day to sample them all during "CRAFT BREW TUESDAYS", where you can enjoy select quality craft beers for only $3/pint!  Normally these beers range from $6-8/pint, so Tuesday is the perfect day to step out of your comfort zone and explore some of the quality offerings we have in our beer rotation.  Selections change weekly, so if you fancy yourself a "beer snob" and want to try something different, tonight's your night.

Swing by tonight after work and see what's on tap!  We're also offering up $4 mixed well drinks from 5pm-10pm for those of you who like your spirits in a different form.

Cheers!

THIS SH** JUST GOT REAL...

Game 4 of the NJ/NY NHL playoff series finally gave us a game that we're familiar with between the two teams: a gritty, physical game where things finally got chippy.  There is no blood lost between the two teams and up to this point the two teams had been careful not to resort to brawling.  But it was only a matter of time before frustrations would boil over- you could see it coming.  And while tempers did indeed boil over, it was the NJ Devils who took advantage of the opportunities given to them as they played their most dominant game to date, defeating the NY Rangers, 4-1 and knotting the series at two games a piece.  The always pivotal Game 5 takes place on Wednesday night back at MSG and for once, I can feel the confidence starting to grow among Devils fans. I am also starting to sense the same thing from hockey pundits as the NJ Devils have (for the most part) outplayed the #1 seeded Rangers through most of this series.  Game 5 should be intense!

In checking the playoff schedule, please note that Game 6 takes place this Friday and Game 7 (if necessary), takes place on Sunday night.  Normally we're closed on the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend, however, if there is a Game 7, we will be opened for the game.

ON ANOTHER NOTE..I know I don't delve into the NBA playoffs too often here, however, last night I did happen to catch the OKC vs LAL game and watched the Thunder dismantle the Lakers, eliminating them from the playoffs.  Am a witnessing the "Changing of the Guard" here folks?

In the meantime, the Miami Heat are having their own issues in trying to take out the Indiana Pacers, but it's proven to be more difficult than they imagined.  They face each other in Game 5 tonight and you can catch that game here.

DON'T FORGET about "Craft Brew Tuesdays", where we offer up a select list of great craft beers for only $3/pint (5pm- close)!  Craft beers being offered up tonight include:  Long Trail IPA, Harpoon Summer Beer, Lagunitas IPA, Goose Island Honkers Ale and Brooklyn Summer Ale!  Stop by and enjoy!

AND FINALLY:  Tomorrow is the day that the ladies of NYC have been waiting for:  It's the start of FLEET WEEK!  Thousands of sailors and military types invade the Big Apple for a week of activities and for many of them, it's their first time to NYC.  If you encounter one of them in your travels, make sure you thank them for a job well done and maybe buy 'em a beer!

SPECIAL NOTE: Pub Trivia takes place on Thursday (8pm)!

Cheers!

RANGERS & DEVILS: SHADES of '94??

If you were watching last night's intense game between the NY Rangers and the Washington Capitals, you probably rode the ultimate roller-coaster ride of emotions, going from the high of highs, to the low of lows.  It's been that kind of series.  And to watch the Rangers pull out victory from what was certain defeat and inch their way closer to the NHL Eastern Conference finals... well you can't help but to wonder if this is indeed a season of destiny.  They keep finding ways to pull out win after win and with the NJ Devils on the verge of eliminating the Philadelphia Flyers, could we have ourselves an Eastern Conference rematch between the Rangers and the Devils?  More importantly, could destiny give us a repeat of 1994?

If we do get a Devils/Rangers Eastern Conference final, I'm not certain if the result would be the same as it was in 1994, but I can say with certainty that both sides of the Hudson River will be ROCKIN'! And that would be great to see!

But first things first: The NJ Devils have to nail down one more game tonight vs Philadelphia, IN Philly, and you know for a fact that the Flyers and their fans will not go quietly.  Should be an intense game!   Of course, we'll have the game on most of our 12 HDTV's so make sure to join us!

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the Rangers & Knicks playing on Wednesday, PUB TRIVIA has been rescheduled to Thursday night (8pm).

TONIGHT: "Craft Brew Tuesdays" (5pm-close).  Enjoy $3 pints of great micro brews from Long Trail, Magic Hat, Lagunitas, and Brooklyn, just to name a few!  Also enjoy $4 Molson Canadian, Coors Light and Labatt Blue during the Devils/Flyers game!

Cheers!
