#HEAT: BACK-TO-BACK NBA CHAMPIONS
An enthusiastic pro-Miami Heat crowd gathered at the bar last night to cheer on their beloved team to victory and the Heat did not disappoint their fans.
Game 7 was everything we expected it to be: a tight back-and-forth game with numerous lead changes and a dramatic finish. The San Antonio Spurs took it to the Heat throughout the series but at the end of the night, it was Miami hoisting up their second straight trophy, much to the delight of Heat fans in Miami and here in New York City.
So as the Heat celebrated their victory, we saw a jubilant celebration at the bar by Heat fans and more specifically, members of the DolfansNYC Club, who, due to our closing, will be locating to a new location for next season. So it was appropriate to see them celebrate a Heat NBA Championship in their last appearance at Third and Long. We want to thank the DolfansNYC Club for their loyalty and choosing to make Third and Long their home the past few years. We opened our doors to them when they had no place to go, and watched them grow from a few in number to a large, vibrant organization that's well known throughout the country. We wish them nothing but continued success at their new location (Slattery's Midtown Pub). Good luck guys!
Now that the NBA season is officially over, we look forward to Game 5 of the Stanley Cup, on what is our last official weekend in business. Of course, we'll air the game (Saturday, 8pm w/audio), so get here early! It's also Fête nationale du Québec Weekend for our friends from the North, so we wish them the very best. It should make for a busy and memorable weekend. If you're around during the weekend, feel free to stop in for a celebratory pint (or two).

JUST LIKE A WOMAN TO BE LATE TO THE PARTY...
This past weekend was a unique one by most standards. While you had your share of fun events like Halloween parties, football games and other important landmark events (like my birthday) all of this was overshadowed by the anticipation of a mega-hurricane by the name of Sandy.
All weekend, the weather pundits were talking about how this particular hurricane had the makings of "The Perfect Storm", with snow, rain, sleet, winds and everything from Aquaman to Spongebob Squarepants emerging from the depths of the ocean seas to engulf the island of Manhattan.
At first, the storm was supposed to hit us on Sunday afternoon... then Sunday evening... By the time I'd left the bar at about 2am on Sunday night/Monday morning, there was not a single drop of rain. So far, Sandy was a no-show. However, as of this afternoon, we finally began to see signs of Sandy's presence by way of rain, fallen leaves and an uptick of wind. The low-lying areas around Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens were experiencing large waves and flooding roads and streets. Parts of the city were being evacuated. Perhaps we're finally going to get to see what the big hullabaloo was all about.
In all seriousness, I knew this was going to be something major, if they were already canceling flights on Friday. I had to postpone my birthday trip to Montreal because I didn't want to take a chance on not being able to get back to NYC by Monday. I also looked into making a surprise trip to Cleveland to visit the family but again, I would have been screwed trying to come back. Turns out it was a wise move. I have friends who flew out to S.F. over the weekend and are now stuck out west until Thursday, thanks to Hurricane Sandy.
In the meantime, while we waited for the arrival of the big lady, we went on with our lives. Saturday night was a big night for Halloween parties and there were plenty of interesting costumes and characters strolling around. This was the first Halloween in quite a long time that I didn't participate in, because I had to wake up extra early the next day. Why did I have to wake up so early? Because the Miami Dolphins were scheduled to play the NY Jets that day. And the DOLFANS NYC club were meeting at the bar at 8am for a pre-game tailgate trip to MetLife Stadium for the game.
So here I am at the bar at 7am with my crack staff, prepping the bar, slicing bagels and helping to organize things for about 100 Miami Dolphins fanatics, anxious to go to their big game. That started what would be a l-o-n-g birthday work day for me. The group surprised me with a birthday serenade and a cool card signed by everyone, which was pretty nice. Once they left, we had a couple of hours to regroup before opening up for the day.
The afternoon games kicked off and it was a pretty relaxing afternoon for football fans at the bar. I had a bet with SAN DIEGO SUPERCHARGER FAN that my Cleveland Browns would beat her Chargers. If my team won, I would get to smash her specially carved San Diego Chargers pumpkin. The Browns won the game 7-6, and yours truly took great delight in collecting his bet!
In the meantime, the Miami Dolphins DESTROYED the NY Jets and the DOLFANS NYC crew came back to the bar in great spirits. As it turned out, they had a great day overall. During their tailgate at the stadium, they were visited by the owner of the team, some ex players and yes, even FERGIE of the BLACK EYED PEAS!
So it was a good day for Dolphins fans in NYC, or it would appear!
The rest of the night consisted of tourists, sports fans and individuals anxiously awaiting the arrival of Hurricane Sandy, who unfortunately never made it to the party by the time we closed up shop. Just like a woman to be fashionably late for to her own party.... Oh well.
In the meantime, as we "anxiously" await the arrival of the main guest of the party, we'll serve up some cold ones for a few hours (or until SANDY shuts us down)!

DOLPHINS WIN, GIANTS WIN, JETS WIN.. .YANKEES.. NOT SO MUCH.
It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon for football and just being out and about in the city. The DOLFANS NYC were out in force to cheer on their Dolphins while the Sunday Brew Crew held court in usual spot, better known as "The Corner". Both parties enjoyed a great afternoon of victorious football for the Dolphins, Giants and Jets. Which brings me to an interesting observation.
While it's been great to have the DolfansNYC on board at Third and Long and enjoy their zest and spirit when their team does well, I can't help but to be a bit put off when I hear some members of the club telling people to "get the f*** out, this is our bar"! Especially to some of the Third and Long regulars, many of them who have been coming to the bar for years and were more than accommodating to the original DolfansNYC when they first started coming here. And if memory serves me correct, part of the reason for coming here, was to be able to enjoy watching the Dolphins without being abused; And aside from the playful banter from time to time, you've been able to do that. But now as the group grows larger in stature, you'll find a few "bad apples" that may taint the rest of the group and my fear is that you become the very thing you wanted to avoid. Being known as "that group". And we don't want to see that happen. You guys, as a whole, are great, with wonderful, unique personalities that makes the DolfansNYC group stand out among others.
Look, we enjoy Sunday Football with the DolfansNYC and the playful banter between everyone adds to the enjoyment. Let's just remember that it's fun times and football and that everyone should be able to enjoy both and co-exist peacefully.
As for the NY Yankees and their fans.... The playoffs began last week with Baltimore and I was surprised to see the "lack of enthusiasm" from Yankee fans about the playoffs and that particular series. Maybe they were looking ahead to the next round? Now the next round is here and they are up against Detroit and yet the same lackluster spirit still exists. And add to that, the loss of Derek Jeter in Game 1 and it seems as if the air has been let out of the Yankee float. Did NY Yankee fans jump ship? It's still a bit early to tell, but it sure seems so. Let's see what Game 3 brings to us on Tuesday, but if you ask me, I think the Yankee float has sailed into the sunset. Hopefully Yankee fans will prove me wrong. Stay tuned...

ARE YA READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL???
After a great Stanley Cup run, a thrilling NBA Championship series, and a long, hot summer filled with Euro Cup and London Olympics highlights... we can finally blow open the doors to a new NFL season! And what better way to open up the season than to have the Super Bowl Champion NY Giants christen the year with an Opening Night matchup against their heated rival, the Dallas Cowboys?
We at Third and Long are looking forward to a 20th season of NFL Football Sundays (and 16th season of "Brew Crew Sundays" and Season #4 of the DOLFANS NYC)! Not just because we get football back again after a long hiatus, but we get to see our dear friends get together again, each and every week!
So unpack your football gear, gather up the posse and let's get ready for some FOOTBALL! The fun times begin TONIGHT (8pm) with the Giants vs the Cowboys (w/audio)! Giveaways throughout the night! Let the debauchery begin!

HIGHLIGHTS WHILE I WAS AWAY...
Here are a few pics from the last few days while I was away! It goes to show you that there's always "Good, Pouring Fun" taking place at THIRD and LONG!
Last night was a well-attended edition of "MONDAY NIGHT DELIGHT" with lots of peeps in for the Montreal/Boston grudge match (won by Boston, 1-0 in a surprisingly clean game); In fact, it seemed that the only real skirmishes took place in the stands:
The Boston lovefest continued with New England laying a smackdown on the QB-less Kansas City Chiefs, 34-3. We also had a going-away party in the back and a birthday party in the front. Definitely an eclectic crowd in the house. It's Thanksgiving Week so that means the tourists are trickling in for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and all the Black Friday shopping that comes with it. So we saw our share of that. Overall it was a great Monday night and should be a sign that this will be a fun week!
Speaking of FUN, today should be a great day, starting off with a full slate of CHAMPIONS LEAGUE matches, including the following we'll be airing:
Then it's the always popular Thanksgiving edition of DOLLAR DRAFT MADNESS! A last chance to let off some steam with the workmates before everyone takes off for the holiday break! $1 Bud/Bud Light mugs ALL NIGHT LONG! And rumor has it we'll be getting a LONG OVERDUE visit from from the folks at FIREBALL WHISKY, which means a long night of debauchery and bad decisions lie ahead for all of us! Mugs start flowing at 5pm and we pour em' until we run out!
So eat well at lunch for tonight we celebrate!
